simply appalling.....

There's no other word to describe it.  Appalling.

How many good innocent people have died because of the "Al Dura affair"?  It was the cause of the second intefada, beginning about eight years ago, in which bombings in Israel claimed dozens of lives.  It was the cause of many a young man's decision to kill, a driving force to martyrdom, adroitly used by Islamic fundamentalist leadership to inflame the young.

It was all a lie.  And now the people who perpetuated that lie are outraged that some have caught them doing it, outraged that position and reputation and the natural order of things have to submit to, of all things, honesty and truth.

HOW DARE THEY, these people snort.  Who do they think they are, these little people who insist that truth be told by journalists?

It's appalling, and not just because the French feel this way.  This sense of the moral and social superiority of journalists is quite noticeable in this country too.

Black robes and red blood....

I sincerely hope someone is alerting our Supreme Dictators about stories like this.

The harder they work to facilitate the release of the evildoers at Gitmo, the more good men will die at their hands.

They are in detention FOR A REASON.  And it isn't because George Bush and Dick Cheney are awful terrible very bad guys.

Rarely do we have such an obvious and clear example of the meaning of the phrase, "blood on their hands".   Our military has made a huge effort to separate wheat from chaff, and thousands have already been released; the 500 or so prisoners of Gitmo are there because release is a  BAD IDEA.  But our great arbiters of justice believe they know better; release is at this point inevitable.

This sort of story never winds up in American newspapers either; the lefties in the press don't want to make a good night's sleep hard for those lefties on the Court.  Gotta keep up their stamina for the next genius decision.

Not my Alex

This new ad for Barack Obama is getting a lot of attention.  It features a young mother admonishing John McCain about her infant son, "you can't have him" for war, etc.

I can't help but remember Cindy Sheehan.  She accuses Bush of being responsible for her son's death (to whomever will listen, which these days is very few people) and has made herself famous and infamous for this, and for hugging mass murderers and wacko leftists.

She never mentions, of course, that her son Casey VOLUNTEERED, both for the service and for the dangerous mission which took his life.

That young man obviously did not share his mother's selfishness and hatred.  Someone else, presumably his father, had a saner and more noble influence on him, for which I thank God.

How does this young mother presume to make Alex's choices for him like this?  As if he was property, to be withheld at her whim, when in reality he will make such choices for his own life, as do we all.

Superficial juvenile American selfishness.  This ad sums it up.

The market at work...

Gasoline demand is falling across the country.

Is this what liberals want?  High prices and lower use?  Well, they're on their way.

It remains to be seen how America will feel about it, but it's not looking good.

Past the solstice, a look back to the beginning of the year....

I wrote this blogpost in the last days of 2007, and the topic of the spotless and silent sun was disturbing to me then; more so now, as more than six months have passed with no relevant change.

The sun is dead quiet.  The solar cycle numbered 24 is two years late, and counting.
